Test your Uptime Tier level knowledge

You've got a lot riding on Uptime Tier-certified data centers. Take this quiz to see how well you know Tiers I through IV.

Certified data centers must live up to their Uptime Tier ranking standards. Is your facility -- or your hosting provider's site -- playing by the rules? Take this quiz to find out.

The Uptime Institute created the tier standard to fairly evaluate data center infrastructure. A business must uphold the system availability required of its tier status. The Uptime Tier classification system allows companies, both small and large, to standardize their data center infrastructure investment to support specific growth or technology goals.

Disclaimer: Uptime does not publish its full data center tier-level qualifications. This quiz is based on available information for Uptime Tier distinctions.

I understand that Tier 3 data center specifications require continuous operation for at least 72 hours in event of power outage. However, per the Uptime Institute "Data Center Site Infrastructure Tier Standard: Topology", the fundamental requirement relating to the on-site fuel storage is stated as only 12 hours for N capacity.  Can anyone clarify the relationship between these two numbers (72 hrs vs 12 hrs-for-N-capacity). Thank you.
