Stripped down to just the essentials, Open Compute servers tolerate inhospitable data center environments. Air flows easily over the circuit board and the components, lowering the power demand for cooling fans.

Facebook runs densely packed racks of Open Compute servers hosting everything from Web traffic to databases in 83 degrees Fahrenheit cold aisles, with hot aisles that can reach 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
