LPI exams given at CeBIT-America this week
The Linux Professional Institute announced it will offered discount prices on certification testing this week at the CeBIt-America technology conference and expo at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City.
LPI 101 and 201 exams will be given tomorrow, Wednesday and Thursday at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. in Room 2DL04. Cost is $25 per exam. Candidates must pre-register at the LPI Web site to obtain an LPI ID number. A photo identification is also required.
LPI is a vendor-independent certification organization that has delivered more than 50,000 level 1 and 2 certifications since 1999.
Linux acceleration vendor reports $15 million in financing
PathScale, Inc., a Linux hardware and software acceleration vendor, announced it has obtained $15 million in financing from its latest financing round. Adams Street Partners of Chicago was the principal investor for this round, which brings PathScale's total financing to $29 million.
PathScale said the funds will be used for technology development and sales and marketing expansion.
"Our evaluation of PathScale's technology, its professional team and its target markets determined that this company represents a unique opportunity, because it is effectively solving some of the most critical problems in Linux cluster efficiency," said Tom Berman of Adams Street Partners, who is joining PathScale's board of directors. "In addition to their superior 64-bit compilers, PathScale will be introducing some highly disruptive technology for scaling clustered servers."
PathScale recently shipped its first product, PathScale EKO Compiler Suite for AMD Opeteron and Athlon64 systems.
Red Hat appoints new General Counsel
Red Hat Inc. announced last week the appointment of Michael Cunningham as the Raleigh, N.C. Linux distributor's General Counsel. Cunning is the former Associate General Counsel of IBM as well as Partner and Associate General Counsel of PricewaterhouseCoopers.
At IBM Cunningham was head legal advisor to the Business Consulting Services division for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and a member of the global senior management team for Business Consulting Services. At PricewaterhouseCoopers Cunningham's most recent responsibilities included global responsibility for the delivery of transactional legal services to PricewaterhouseCoopers Consulting as well as the lead lawyer in EMEA for this business.
Mark Webbink, Red Hat General Counsel since 2000, is moving to the role of Deputy General Counsel for intellectual property and public policy. In his new role, Webbink will guide Red Hat's legal strategy with respect to intellectual property and will continue to be an active voice of the open source community with respect to intellectual property issues.
Dell, Scali team on HPC services for Linux
Dell Inc. announced it has partnered with Scali to deliver high performance clustered Linux computing services via Dell Professional Services.
Services will include cluster planning, on-site system installation, application and system porting and tuning, training, performance benchmarking and management.
