Who are Red Hat's biggest competitors?
Hands-down, their biggest competitor is Novell. They pretty much dominated the recent LinuxWorld conference. Having tossed its hat in the arena with its acquisition of SuSE, it has made a huge statement about its commitment to Linux. Beating Red-Hat to the table with its 2.6 kernel release will only make it that much more of a marketable product. Because many people are calling Red Hat the Microsoft of Linux variants, and they don't use that term in a positive way, lots of folks are hoping for Novell's success. I'm reserving judgment, only because I'm still skeptical given Novell's background with UnixWare, though I feel they have a much better chance today of really taking off with Linux, if they market their product well.
