Getting started with Linux and open source on the desktop.

What's the first step towards open source on the desktop?
A good way to get started with open source on the desktop is with open source software that runs on Windows. If you migrate users to the Windows versions of Mozilla Firefox and OpenOffice.org, you'll be getting them used to the same software they may be seeing later on Linux. In effect, you'll be staggering the migration.

You don't need to start with Linux on the desktop to achieve big savings with open source, either -- Microsoft Office is typically twice as expensive as the operating system.
