Uniform standards for the Linux/OSS community

An open source software and applications expert describes his observations about the progress the Linux Foundation has been making towards creating uniform standards for Linux/OSS.

How far has Linux come with developing uniform standards? Have organizations like the Linux Foundation made any significant moves within the last few months? What's the status of the Portland Project?
I was at the Linux Foundation Community Summit and here is what I took away regarding the questions you raise: The Linux Foundation is a strong supporter of uniform standards, especially LSB. It's an ongoing effort to get everyone to adopt uniformity, but they're making progress.

The Portland Project has made great progress and is very active. Of course, there's still plenty to do. Also, the major commercial members of the Linux Foundation continue to lobby hardware manufacturers to supply Linux drivers, which is an important issue.
