Is it safe to run Mandrake with Windows 2000?

Is it safe to install Linux Mandrake V8.2 in my hard disk, despite the fact I am running Windows 2000 under format...

Just make certain during installation that it does not delete the Windows 2000 partition. I presume you have space on your hard disk for the Linux partition. You should not attempt to run Linux from disk based files inside the NTFS partition, it should be installed on its own partition.

You can locate and use a utility called FIPS to shrink your NTFS partition create free space on your hard disk into which you can install Linux.

Alternately, you could use a proprietary disk management tool like PowerQuest to shrink your Windows partition to make room for Linux.
