How to formulate an open source strategy

Open source software has arrived in the enterprise, and we'll see it used alongside proprietary software for years to come. CIOs and IT Directors need to have an understanding of how open source will fit into their existing infrastructure, and how to introduce it to achieve the most benefit with the least risk.

At the very least, a strategy will involve first cataloging current use of open source software, ensuring license compliance, then planning for phased future adoption.
