How can I give each of my users a home directory on a Red Hat 9 server?

How can I give each of my users a home directory on a Red Hat 9 server? I want users to login and get RW access to their home directories on the server. Right now, their home directories reside on a SuSE 8.2 client. Right now, I get the client to authenticate with users in the LDAP database. When I set up LDAP users, their home directories were set to "homeDirectory: /home/<user>", with a username of <user>. I created a passwd.ldif file and exported with ldapadd. With this setup, the user's home directory is on the client. Can I use Samba, NFS or what?
You don't give me any information about what type of clients actually need the access -- Windows PC clients or other Linux clients. If the answer is Windows PC clients, you'll want to use Samba. If these are other Unix clients or Linux clients, then you could use NFS. If you would please send me more info on exactly what you are trying to do, and what type of clients need access, I'll try to help you some more.
