File/print sharing in mixed environments

Open source software and apps expert Bernard Golden recommends using Samba for introducing Linux into a mixed environment.

I have Windows 2000 Server that provides print and file sharing services and seven Windows 2000 Pro Systems. The network protocol is NetBeui. I also need to introduce Linux as an upgrade. Is it possible to have these two working alongside each other? What would it take to have them work? What programs or hardware would I need to install to have them working?

It is absolutely possible to run a mixed environment and Linux is often introduced into Microsoft environments as a file/print server. The best way to accomplish this is by using the open source Samba product, which drops into Windows environments very easily. You can learn more at here.
