The following presentation was given at Data Center Decisions Spring 2005 in New York.

Call it what you will -- the adaptive enterprise, on demand, dynamic systems, organic infrastructure, utility computing, real-time enterprise, or N1 -- the trend is clear: we are moving toward a new computing model that is necessary to the new ways enterprises must work to survive and thrive in this century. The new business landscape is causing this evolution; a massively networked market consisting of massively networked firms greatly increases both the frequency and variability of threats and opportunities. IT enterprises must have the capability to sense and respond appropriately to theses demands when and where they occur. Agility is the essence of the new enterprise and the enterprise computing model. To enable agility, the industry is moving toward ever more agile, virtualized, and componentized services, applications, infrastructures, organizations, and processes. Enterprises must take action to ensure their businesses, IT infrastructure, IT organization, and management practices are moving toward agility as well. Dave Pultorak, President, Fox IT, describes the new computing model and provides a roadmap for beginning the journey of putting it to work for your company.
