The following presentation was given at Data Center Decisions Spring 2005 in New York.
The volatility of global markets is driving businesses to require that IT costs be dynamically aligned with business demand – a key promise of the on-demand/utility data center. Although such cost agility's appeal is obvious, its concrete economic foundation within your data center has proved illusive. Indeed, current On-Demand/Utility vendor initiatives are typically long on technology and short on demonstrated return on investment. IT organizations and business leaders must quantify both the magnitude and the timing of costs and benefits that will deliver such value. Moreover, you cannot afford to wait until full deployment for a quantifiable return on the On-Demand/Utility investment.
In his keynote presentation, consultant Rob Schafer explores the economic, technological, and organizational challenges facing senior data center management as it wrestles with the promise of the On-Demand/Utility Data Center.
