DEFINITION -

A liquid-tight strain-relief connector is a special electrical connector or jacket used in cabling for electronic and computer systems where water or contaminant intrusion is a concern. The jacket is made of rubber, plastic or synthetic material that is impervious to moisture and dust. The jacket also provides increased mechanical strength and electrical integrity, especially in connections subject to frequent flexing or variable temperature.

When properly used, liquid-tight strain strain-relief connectors can reduce downtime, optimize reliability and minimize the risk of intermittent connection failure in complex systems such as blade servers that contain numerous cable connections in a limited physical volume. They can be especially helpful in equipment that is operated outdoors. Liquid-tight strain-relief connectors and jackets are inexpensive and last for years.
