Verari Systems Inc. SB5255 DataServer
Verari Systems Inc. introduced a blade server and storage hybrid system on September 24, 2007. The SB5255 DataServer wins the bronze for its convergence of storage, server and applications, minimizing network bottlenecks and enhancing performance.
The convergence of storage, server and applications makes San Diego-based Verari Systems' SB5255 DataServer well suited for companies like those in the Web 2.0 space where processing power and storage density are high priority.
Because it is a combo unit, Verari claims the DataServer also delivers up to 50% energy savings and up to 77% improved floor space utilization over traditional server / storage systems.
The SB5255 DataServer from Verari Systems is a modular, blade-based general-purpose
application server with a high density storage capacity. It consists of one SB1205 server blade and up to two SB1056 disk blades. The SB1205 server blade is based on Intel's dual-socket, quad-core processors with up to 32GB of memory, and the two SB1056 disk blades together hold up to 24TBs of RAID storage capacity, enabling a single BladeRack 2 platform to house up to a half a petabyte of storage capacity and 176 processor cores on just two data center floor tiles.
The platforms support up to 32GB DDR2-667 Fully Buffered-DIMM ECC (Error Correcting Code) Memory and have eight DIMM sockets.
The DataServer supports Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Red Hat Enterprise Linux and SUSE Linux.
The systems began shipping in the fourth quarter of 2007.
