Fujitsu combines blades with virtualization management
Fujitsu launched its new "Dynamic Cube" system on Tuesday, which consists of Primegy's BX900 blade servers with Intel Xeon 5500 chips and the Fujitsu ServerView Resource Coordinator VE (RCVE) virtualization-management software.

The software provides a uniform view of up to 1,000 Primergy chassis, racks, towers, and third-party systems to create pools of hypervisors and OSes.

The Primergy BX900 is designed for redundancy to reduce downtime with software-managed-hardware failover, and every single active component is hot-swappable. The system also includes new power and cooling technologies, Fujitsu Cool Safe, that the company claims reduces energy costs by thousands of dollars per chassis per year.

Primergy BX900 can be ordered now, and pricing starts at $10,791.

Yahoo's Northeast data center may land in New York
Yahoo Inc. is in talks to place its Northeast regional data center in the Western New York region

"This is not a done deal. … But it is looking very, very good," said New York Sen. Charles Schumer in the Business Journal on Monday,

New York state officials have been in talks with Sunnyvale-based Yahoo since late last fall in the hopes of getting the data center, which would service the entire Northeast, according to reports. The center is reported to be as large as 60,000 square feet, with room to expand, and is expected to employ between 50 and 100 people to start.

Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan and Illinois are also making offers to Yahoo.

Cisco launches cloud computing platform
Cisco Systems launched a cloud computing delivery platform on Tuesday called Unified Service Delivery for public and private cloud computing providers.

The Unified Service Delivery (USD) platform is designed to work with the upcoming Cisco Unified Computing System and Cisco's Internet Protocol Next-Generation Networks (IP NGNs). Cisco's USD also incorporates the Cisco Nexus Switch and a new incarnation of the Cisco CRS-1 Carrier Routing System that is "optimized" for cloud-based data centers.

For instance, the Cisco CRS-1 platform allows providers to virtualize traffic and network operations on a per-service or per-customer basis with a smaller Cisco CRS-1 footprint.

The benefit of these combined technologies is speed; cloud providers can quickly adapt to changing customer needs, accelerate service delivery, better utilize resources, and increase the return on investment, Cisco reported.

Juniper Networks launches high density 10Gb Ethernet switch
Cisco rival Juniper Networks launched a switch that it says is specifically designed for cloud environments on Tuesday.

The new EX8216 Ethernet switch is a 16-slot platform with switch fabric capacity of up to 12.4 Tb for high-density, 10 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) data center and cloud computing environments.

The switch is part of the EX8200 line, which also includes the eight-slot EX8208, and has a per-slot capacity of 320 Gbps. It delivers up to 2 billion packets per second performance and offers a built-in migration path to 100 GbE for scalability.
