Intel offers data center management software
Intel introduced a software development kit last week that monitors and manages data center power consumption. The Intel Data Center Manager (DCM) is designed for servers running the Intel Xeon Processor 5500 series and Intel Intelligent Power Node Manager to optimize performance for power efficiency.
The tool provides power and thermal monitoring and management for servers, racks and groups of servers in data centers so administrators can maximize rack space and right-size power and cooling to improve data center energy efficiency.
Intel DCM can be integrated into existing consoles or command-line applications.
Fujitsu reports serious profit loss, outsourcing chip manufacturing
Fujitsu ditched plans to develop its own processors and will outsource that work instead to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. instead, the company reported Thursday.
Japan's Fujitsu Ltd. reported a 52% decline in quarterly profit because of economic conditions, reduced chip prices and weak demand for electronics.
Fujitsu will partner with the Taiwanese manufacturer on the development of new 40-nanometer and 32-nanometer semiconductor technologies, as well as other technologies that were in Fujitsu's development pipeline, according to reports.
