Symantec ships HA/DR monitoring tool
Symantec said its new high availability and disaster recovery (HA/DR) technology can detect disaster recovery issues before they cause problems. The Veritas CommandCentral Disaster Recovery Advisor monitors HA and DR configurations, detects and analyzes potential HA/DR issues to ensure that all systems work when needed. CommandCentral Disaster Recovery Advisor is generally available, with prices starting at $3,000 based on the number of physical servers to be monitored.

Apple updates Xserve with Nehalem
In case anyone forgot, Apple makes x86 servers, and the company updated its Xserve system with Intel's new Nehalem processors this week.

The updated Xserve delivers up to twice the performance of the previous system and is available with up to two 2.93 GHz Intel Xeon processors, the company said. The Apple Xserve specs include up to 3 TB of internal storage, 1,066 MHz DDR3 ECC memory, and either six or 12 dual inline memory module, or DIMM, slots.

The server's prices starts at $2,999 and includes unlimited client licenses for Mac OS X Server version 10.5 Leopard.
