Data center colo CyrusOne to build in Austin
CyrusOne plans to build a new 50,000-square-foot data center colocation facility in Austin, making it the largest colo in Texas, according to Tier 1 Research.
The facility will be the company's first in Austin. It already has two data centers in Houston and three in Dallas. The Austin data center will be in MetCenter, a data center industrial park that includes two on-site electrical substations fed from separate power sources. Houston-based CyrusOne said the facilities will be able to support densities of up to 1,000 watts per square foot and claim fully redundant (2N) power and cooling infrastructure.
AdaptivCool has new data center hotspot device
AdaptivCool, the data center division of Degree Controls, has a new overhead cooling device meant to help eliminate data center hotspots.
The Hotspotr HT-710 sits on top of server cabinets and delivers 1,300 cubic feet per minute (CFM) of air to help cool targeted areas of the data center. The company already has an underfloor model for raised floors. The devices can work on their own to control temperature to a specific area, or work in concert with other similar devices to control temperature to an entire data center.
APC upgrades data center security monitoring tools
APC (or American Power Conversion) has updated its NetBotz data center monitoring tools to improve support for cameras, cabling and Power over Ethernet.
The devices can be installed to record video and audio from the data center, and now have Pelco IP cameras, which APC said have better resolution. Pelco and APC are owned by the same parent company, Schneider Electric. Using Power over Ethernet prevents data centers from having to hide a power device in the wall or ceiling.
