Texas Memory Systems intros high-capacity solid-state disk
Texas Memory Systems pumped up the capacity on its Flash-PCIe-based solid-state disk (SSD) line with the new 450 GB RamSan-20.

The RamSan-20 is a complete storage system on a PCI Express (PCIe) Flash card that snaps easily into a server and minimizes latency between the server's processor and storage, Houston-based Texas Memory said. With 450 GB of usable single-level cell (SLC) Flash memory, the RamSan-20 is the highest capacity PCIe Flash card on the market, according to the company.

The RamSan-20 performs at 120,000 I/Os per second (IOPS) for random read operations and transfers data, making it faster than most Flash drives and traditional mechanical hard drives. Flash-based SSD on PCIe is also available through Fusion-io, which offers 80 GB, 160 GB, and 320 GB versions that perform up to 102,000 IOPS.

Databases, video editing, financial modeling, data acquisition, scientific computing, and Web content are examples of applications that will benefit from the RamSan-20, which is scheduled for general availability in early Q2 2009.
