Dell updates PowerEdge management software
Dell’s new Management Plug-in for VMware vCenter allows PowerEdge server administrators to
provision bare metal servers, deploy hypervisors, handle firmware and BIOS updates, and manage
alerts directly from the virtualization provider’s management console. Dell also enhanced its
PowerEdge servers’ embedded systems management capabilities, making it easier to deploy systems and
updates, migrate workloads and monitor hardware. In addition, a new version of Dell’s integrated
Remote Access Controller (iDRAC) allows remote server management, monitoring, troubleshooting,
remediation and upgrades.
Energy management startup integrates with Cisco, Intel and VMware
JouleX, maker of JouleX Energy Management (JEM) energy management suite, said its JEM version 2.5
is now integrated with the Cisco EnergyWise API, Intel’s Data Center Manager and NodeManager, and
VMware vCenter. Such integration improves on its ability to measure and analyze energy
consumption in the data center. JEM 2.5 also supports Windows Remote Management (WinRM) and Active
Directory Organizational Units (OU), among other enhancements.

Next-gen monitoring providers land customers
Two emerging systems management providers flaunted new customers last week. Belgian postal provider
bpost selected Nimsoft Monitoring Service (NMS) to monitor its physical and virtual servers, as
well as its network, while LogicMonitor claimed that IT Solutions of Philadelphia, and Bellwether
Technology Corp. of New Orleans, selected its offerings. Both LogicMonitor and Nimsoft offer their
management software on a Software-as-a-Service basis, although NMS can also be deployed at the
customer’s premises.
