Rich Schiesser's book, IT Systems Management, is an all-encompassing bible for IT managers. The second edition, just released in 2010, is updated with theory and best practices for managing and maintaining a successful IT infrastructure environment. The book uses examples and background culled from Schiesser's experience in the IT industry to address key aspects of important issues and changing trends within the IT infrastructure industry.
The chapter excerpt featured here is taken from Chapter 8, "Performance and Tuning," and applies the IT process of performance and tuning to each of the five major environments of a company's infrastructure, servers, disk storage, databases, networks, and desktop computers.
