Definition

S/390

S/390 is IBM's large server (or mainframe) line of computer systems, which are marketed to the world's Fortune 1000 and many mid-size companies as a "tried-and-true" system with a history that stretches back to the System/360 of the early 1960s. The S/390 combines a hardware design based on the use of multiple microprocessor packaging with the OS/390 operating system, whose multitasking architecture and long evolution (most of the bugs have already been found) results in a system that seldom crashes. IBM's VM operating system also runs on the S/390.
