How do I get my TurboLinux IBM Thinkpad working?

I have an IBM Thinkpad and use TurboLinux. It has been working fine, but now when it says starting service it says...

(Checking root filesystem)

(/ contains a file system errors,)

(unattached imode 85338)

(/: unexpected inconsistecy; RUN fsck manually)

(***An error occurred during file system check. dropping you to shell the system will reboot when you leave the shell. give root password for maintenance.)

How can I get it working again?
For this type of question I would need to see the system. This question cannot be answered without first checking out the file integrity and file system.
