Currently, we have an application developed in IBM VisualAge Smalltalk that talks to the mainframes using CICS Universal Client V3.1. The main purpose to talk to mainframes is to get some information related to customers.

Now, we want to replace this application in VisualAge Smalltalk with Visual Basic. Can we use CICS Universal Client in Visual Basic or how do we access data from DB2 database in Visual Basic?

There is a new release of the CICS clients that you can continue to use for access to CICS from Visual Basic. I think that as you are recoding your applications, I would not go down the direct DB2 route. As, I guess, you have logic in your CICS programs that would need to be duplicated.
